Girls Getaway to the Cozy Cottage on the Toccoa

Girls Getaway to the Cozy Cottage on the Toccoa

Just outside of the hustle and bustle of Atlanta there is the most peaceful cozy cottage set so perfectly on the Toccoa River in Mineral Bluff.

Girls Getaway

My besties and I decided we needed a girl’s weekend getaway in a bad way! Knowing we wanted to stay close to home, and all loved the mountains we decided to search VRBO for the perfect place. As we all vigorously searched we stumbled upon the listing for Merry Rose Cottage. We booked and packed for the weekend, on the way up the mountain we stopped by the grocery store to get all the food needed for our weekend and we were on our way to the cottage.

Merry Rose Cottage

The cottage sites deep in the mountains of Mineral Bluff, down a bumpy dirt road, backed up to the rushing waters of the Toccoa River. The pictures provided in the VRBO ad did no justice for the beauty we saw upon arrival to the cottage. Ann, the owner, provided us with perfect directions to the cottage, along with an itinerary of events happening in town, which was a short drive away.

The cottage was fully stocked with everything we needed to make our girl’s weekend unforgettable. The kitchen was stocked with dishes, pots, and pans, spices, silverware, etc. The living room had just the right amount of cozy furniture if you wanted to sit inside curl up on the couch or in a chair and read a while. It even had a fireplace for guest who visited during the colder months. The bedrooms were placed in what I call a roommate style, one on each side of the cozy cottage. Each having their own bathroom which worked perfectly for the three of us. The bathrooms were stocked with toilet paper and towels for the shower. After picking out rooms and quickly unpacking groceries we took our shoes off, grabbed a cocktail, and sat on the porch soaking in the sound of the raging waters.

Sounds of the Toccoa

The cottage is amazing and cozy but it’s not the best feature this place has to offer. The cute cottage backs up to the Toccoa River that offers the sounds of serenity all day. The cottage had a few spots to enjoy the sounds and the views. There is a viewing dock on the property with chairs and a table to set your things on. It was big enough for the three of us to spread out, hang our feet over the side and swing them. We spent hours talking about our lives, laughing, singing and dancing on the dock. We even tried out the tubes that were provided but quickly found out that the rushing waters in the Toccoa are frigid! We also had the pleasure of speaking to tubers, who must not have had any feeling in the legs or bums what so ever, and kayakers as they quickly rode by. I am an early riser so a few mornings while I sipped coffee I got the watch the fly fisher’s fish while the river tides were low. I had never seen this before so it was truly an amazing site to see. Our favorite thing about the time we spent on that dock were our duck buddies that came back daily to pay us a visit. So, of course, we had to name them, Jack and Diane. It was very fitting because they stuck together and were never far apart from one another! They had to be a thing if there is such thing for ducks. The waters of the Toccoa were simply amazing we hope to return in the warmer months so we can tube without freezing or simply relax and take in the peaceful sounds they have to offer.

Things To Do At the Cottage

The cottage has plenty of activities to keep you busy during your visit. The cottage provided tubes, kayaks, lounge chairs, a hot tube, and a grill to cook all your food. We enjoyed the tubes and found it very relaxing to lounge in the hot tube sharing stories and laughing in the evenings. We enjoy playing corn hole so we packed our own and had plenty of room to set them out on the huge back deck and play for hours. There are limitless activities at the cottage you could go hiking, float down the Toccoa, read a good book, or venture out locally and see the mountain scenes. We did see a train full of people pass once daily, it was part of the Blueridge Scenic Railway and decided on our next trip we would take a ride!
